Hair for Long Face Shape

Hair for Long Face Shape - When it comes to oblong faces one thing that should be kept in mind is that extremes should be avoided at all costs. On the one hand, very short hairstyles have absolutely no effect when it comes to reducing length and spiky hairstyles can even create more unnecessary length. On the other hand, very long hair is not flattering for this face either, because long tresses tend to emphasize your facial features even more. A good way to narrow down your options and to increase the chances of finding a suitable hairstyle for you is to choose hairstyles that surpass the jawline and to aim for shoulder length hairstyles as these are some of the most flattering choices for this face shape. In addition, avoiding middle parts is also a wise idea, as this is another element that contributes to the impression of overall length.

Cute Long Hairstyles for Girls

Cute Long Hairstyles for Girls - Many mothers allow their daughter's hair to grow long so it may be styled in fun and cute ways. Short hair can be easy to manage, while long hair provides a number of options that are expressive and stylish. In this article are just a few of the many ways that girls with long hair have been styling their hair for ages.
  1. Braids, French Braids and Inverted Braids

    • A braid is made by dividing the hair into three equal sections. The middle strand is pulled around the back and to the left. Next, the new strand in the middle is pulled around the back and to the right. Then the new strand in the middle is pulled around the back and to the left. This pattern is continued all the way down.
A classic braided look for girls is two braids--one on each side. Divide the girl's hair in half from front to back. Braid each section, and tie with a bow to complete. To keep the hair out of the girl's way, tie the braids together at the back with one bow.
For an easy but fun variation on this theme, make each braid a french braid. French braids are made by extracting a small strand in the middle of the hair to be braided, and dividing that strand into three smaller, equal strands. Those three strands are braided like a standard braid, except that sections of the hair from the larger, unbraided section is added to the braid each time the middle strand is passed to the side.
For an even more unique look, invert the french braid. Do this by braiding backwards--instead of pulling the strand in the middle to the back, pull it around the front.
Another option involves leaving most of the hair down. Make a slender braid out of the hair above each ear, and pull the braids back behind the girl's head. Tie the braids together with a bow.

    Buns

    • Make a bun by twisting the hair in one direction until it curls into a curve. Keep twisting the hair and gather it together in a spiraling coil against the head. You may keep the hair coiled up like this with a hair tie twisted around the coil twice or three times. For a more discrete method of holding the bun up, use bobby pins placed at the 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions.
Another cute look for girls involves making a bun on each side. Divide the hair evenly down the middle of the head and coil up the hair on each side. Make the bun rest on the head just above the ears, or place each bun toward the back of the head, closer to the neck. Be careful to position the buns so they are evenly spaced at similar heights on the head for a symmetrical appearance.
For a more erratic appearance, make small buns all over the head, like little knobs. Do not place them in predictable ways, or with symmetry in mind.

    Pony Tails and Pig Tails

    • A pony tail is made by gathering all the hair on the head into one spot in the back, and keeping it there with a hair tie. Pony tails very standard and plain for people with long hair. To add interest to the look, divide the pony tail into equal sections and make them into braids.
You may also try doing something similar with pig tails. Pig tails are made by dividing the girl's hair into two sections (in equal halves down the middle), and then keeping them there with hair ties. Pig tails can either poke out from the head above the ears, or they can be down and toward the back of the head, near the neck. Try braiding the pig tails, or curling them with a curling iron.

Long Hair Care

Long Hair Care - Long hair care is about taking care of yourself as well as your hair. Here are some tips for healthy long hair.

Keeping Long Hair Healthy

Breakage is the number one problem with long hair care. Usually, breakage is seen as split ends or fly away strands. Unhealthy hair is caused by poor maintenance, from improper brushing, washing, and too few and far in-between visits to the hair stylist. Poor-nutrition, stress, and even bad sleeping patterns can lead to damaged hair.

Proper Brushing
Proper brushing is especially important to long hair care. Hair should only be brushed when dry because hair is at its weakest when wet. A brush with a wooden base and natural bristles, sometimes even called a "long hair brush", is best for long hair. The healthiest way to brush your hair is:
  • Bend forward and allow your hair to fall. Brush from the nap of your neck to the tips of your hair.
  • Next, stand up straight and brush your hair from the underside, starting at the hairline and working your way down to the tips.
  • Lastly, brush the top layers with long and even strokes.
The number of strokes should be increased gradually. If the hair becomes oily, cut back on the number of strokes.

Combing
Your hair should always be combed before brushing, including when the hair is dry. A wide tooth comb is best for long hair; stylists suggest using a quality wide tooth comb made from rubber, nylon or resin. Wooden combs are also acceptable as long as they are polished and smooth.

Drying
Air drying is best way to dry long hair. Overuse of hair dryers can cause damage to the hair and dry the scalp out as well. Try not to scrub or rub hair vigorously when drying - this can cause breakage or unwanted tangles.

Curling
For long hair care, the best way to curl hair is with hair rollers. Electric rollers, hot combs, and curling irons are hard on the hair and should be used in moderation. Use only on a cool setting. Basic, old-fashioned hair curlers are the safest way to curl long hair.

Shampooing and Conditioning Hair
Shampooing
  • If your hair is overly dry and brittle, you should wet your hair and coat it with a thin layer of light conditioner before shampooing.
  • Next, massage the shampoo into your scalp and roots and rinse.
  • Make sure to pick the right shampoo for your hair type.
  • The less chemicals and the more natural ingredients in a shampoo, the better it is for your hair and the less buildup you will see.
Conditioning
  • Do not over condition: using conditioner every day will cause your hair to be greasy.
  • Do not put conditioner directly on your scalp, rather work it through the hair, taking special care to coat the hair tips where most damage occurs.
  • For extremely damaged or delicate hair, consider regular deep conditioning or hot oil treatments.
Outdoors and Long Hair Care
Make sure to wear a hat, a scarf, or some type of head covering at all times, to protect your hair from over exposure to the sun, wind, and air pollution, which can dry out your hair. Also investigate products that include UV protection.

Hair Cuts
For long hair care to retain that maintained look and for the hair to continue to grow in healthy, it is absolutely necessary that your hair is trimmed on a regular basis. The optimum time is every six weeks to two months, but the exact interval will depend on the condition and strength of your hair.

Hair Growth
Hair grows at a different rate, depending on the individual. Long hair care takes attention and time. Here are some of the factors that have to do with how fast hair grows:
  • Body chemistry
  • How well you take care of your hair
  • Eating a well-balanced diet
  • Working out regularly
  • Getting a proper amount of sleep
  • Taking proper vitamins, especially vitamins that aid in hair health
